MP Farmer Income Ranks 22nd in India Despite Top Wheat, Soybean, Gram and Moong Production; Most Produce Sells Below MSP

Madhya Pradesh is among India’s leading agricultural states in the production of wheat, soybean, gram and moong, yet the state ranks 22nd in farmer income. Despite record agricultural production, farmers are not receiving the full value of their produce in the market. Average mandi prices of several major crops have remained below the Minimum Support Price (MSP), affecting farmers’ earnings. The gap between MSP, market prices and rising cultivation costs has emerged as a major concern for Madhya Pradesh farmers. The report also highlights the decline in average landholding size over the past five decades and its impact on farm income.
